Reading for January 19
On January 19, we'll discuss three poems by the poet (and Roman Catholic priest) Gerard Manley Hopkins. They are all short, so we'll have time to read them in full in class, but if you want to get acquainted in advance I link to them below.
Hopkins is a difficult poet, so we'll spend some time in class unpacking what these poems are saying. For a first read (or first couple of reads), I would recommend not worrying too much about the meaning--just enjoy the music of Hopkins's language and images.
